It's fun to go low but being low or too elongated both come with a price, depending on purpose. Elongation is the biggest issue for beginners and something you have to always focus on/control however long you Telemark. A stiff front leg and and a stressed rear knee from being too spread out make difficult skiing and a short day. Can you stay compact and go low? Somewhat, but it's a lot of work and joint stress.

Great control, whether you like the style or not. Is it any wonder that one of the best Telemark skiers is also one of the least arrogant and bigoted?

Alpine skies, green bunny slope. BFD Why bother to post on a tele paged? Apparently you just comment but don't watch. He starts off on locked heels and then changes over to Tele. In any case, all skiing is related and if you don't understand that, then you really don't even know the very basics of skiing, period.

What are you blathering about? We all know you traveled across the whole country to ski green groomers for a week on some old junk DC skis, but you bitch to see someone else artfully carve a nice low-angle slope on both Tele and alpine skis? Wow, hypocrisy much?

Here ya go "Rock", next time watch the whole vid before making a clueless comment. (BTW, does he spider across this run like Gt did EVERY Z TURN at the closed resort last spring? And no doubt you're a big pole stabber as well.) POLES ARE NOT "OUTRIGGERS", except for those stuck on the beginner level of skiing.

Alpine skies, green bunny slope. BFD Why bother to post on a tele paged? Do you feel you are beyond having a great slide on a low-angle groomer? I sure don't ( and neither does Bruce from what I recall!<snicker> haha). And I know lots of very good skiers and instructors who ski anything anywhere who will happily ski the low(er) angled groomed runs a few times to warm up or to practice an exercise or just to have fun. Thiro is doing some nice carving in the video irrespective of whether he is on Alpine or free-heel gear and his form does not change that much. Why do you suppose that is? HINT: it's because Tele and alpine have far far more in common than not, though there are clearly differences.

Yes, you don't have to look like a pole-stabbing, laterally unstable dork to REALLY Tele on light gear.

Alpine skies, green bunny slope. BFD Why bother to post on a tele paged? But you would just love to see some clips of Grampa Groomer slaying the bunnyhills on that now famous trip out west? I wonder if Ron took any? No wait, Gt stuck on the green groomers is way different because he was on some old junk DC skis, which, as we all heard a million times in his rants, were/are perfect for ripping EVERYTHING-- every slope and every condition! Your clueless schtick is stale.

I never took any videos when they were here at all, just lots of pix. Here's one of Gt skiing spring corn in the sunshine on those shitty-for-downhill DC skis. It's a solid blue groomer on the N-facing side of Mt. Spokane where folks go to get away from fog on the S. Side. There's a lot of tree skiing and plenty of SC and steeper skiing back there. I have no idea what those skis were but clearly a DC ski that hated spring snow..

This pic is telltale. ELONGATION, SMEARING OR SKIDDING FORM. Front knee is underflexed, rear knee is overflexed. Low skeletal support. Is that "bad"? No, just typical oldschool and very inefficient Telemark, but if you love it, then great. Short-day Tele. You cannot carve for a damn like this. Physically impossible. But, again, no one has to carve to have fun.

There was a time when going low almost defined Telemark in a cliche' kinda way ( not that Gt is going low in that pic) but going low makes it very hard to actually carve on the front and impossible on the back. Of course you can still smear or slarve about every turn and be a good Telemark skier except on ice or very packed snow but who wants to Telemark on boilerplate anyways?

Going low can be fun. It's not efficient and it's not carving form.
