Inspiring snow, but probably not as forgiving as it looks..That's early season, and probably a good reason for AT gear. Or maybe another great Tele skier ends the fight?

I don't think he's fighting anything from the looks of it. Seems like he just likes to ski on anything he can get his hands on.

Thiro style. Good skiing especially considering the gear. Heels low and not a lot of vertical movement.

Really an interesting video.. If you Telemark with more front leg emphasis and on bigger gear, then your skis will often be LESS PARALLEL ( NOT MORE Gt!), depending on the slope. On lighter gear, they tend to stay MORE PARALLEL, depending on the slope and your style of skiing. Those who shuffle more and lunge less, generally will have the skis more parallel through the turns.

Skis every Telemark option and seemingly mostly in the same way/style though the lighter the gear, the more survival methods.

Everything about Telehiro's method of Telemark is ranted against by Grampa Groomer. His stance is very tight and the raised heel is very low, he turns using every radius possible, he seldom skis low. The KTB just make up their own inconsistent Telemark standards, though others do the same but they just happen to be more rational about it.

What happened to all the "free the mind" babble? That's what happens when anything transforms into religion.

Telemark Past is in many ways just a cliché, a quaint footnote to many Alt and technically silly claims.

The continuous advice about pounding down the rear ski is often just counterproductive. Keep a tight, centered stance and do not stomp the back ski or you eventually will be pivoting your turns on the inside ski. Shuffle and ski in counter.

Ironic but that harping on weighting the back ski comes from the tendency of beginners to get way way spread out and to drag the back ski. If you shuffle and stay very tight fore/aft, you really don't have to worry about how much weight is on the trailing ski. It's a shuffle, not a stride. It's a squat, not a lunge. Your COM moves fore and aft by knee an ankle flexion not by upperbody fore/aft rotation at the hips.

All beginners should get comfortable straight-running. Essential for good balance especially for all off piste skiing in any depth of snow. Another way to say it is that ideally we want to stay more in the fall-line to the extent it is safe and possible.

If you can't stay in it , you will fight yourself ALL DAY LONG. And you will get "stuck" 90 degrees to the slope. And you will sink in deep snow. On the steep and narrower with settled or packed snow, you will have to turn more, but that does not mean zzzzzzing out. It means scrubbing speed.

Image left, Hiro form.. Image right, cliche' Telemark form. Notice which leading leg has better flex on the leading boot which means better edge control or better ability carve.Notice which skier has the trailing knee too loaded with less forward pressure on the ski tip. And excessive "elongation" will simply overload the rear knee while making it very difficult to pressure the cuff of the front boot. 0 flexion on front leg + an overloaded rear knee makes for a very short day with shitty edging.
