You guys are so full of bullshit that the grass grows green....Went out to visit North Idaho because Ron had a picture of him on skinnies at Lookout....And he was truly funny on these sites....last time on the groomers was out at Ron's because his insight into BC is Side country.....In other words lift served BC.....That around here is a total joke....Shoulda gone to Wyoming.....And dopy dope, gg, how is it that at powder Mountain we were offered (FREE) to head out with them?....It was the Telemark we did....Also dopy remember that boarder chick at Tucks.....bared her breasts to show her appreciation....Bet it doesn't happen to you what with all those products to HELP you telemark....Pins, leathers, skinny...Try it......oooooops that wouldn't work well as you couldn't do it and have no response because you got nothing....Also asked to go with the patrol at Bolton and Bretton Woods....Nothing, nada, zip....Another pretender.....TM

Bruce - maybe I don't know people, but maybe you'd be better off if YOU stopped PRETENDING!
Get real with yourself. Be humble. Tone down on the defense. Turn off Fox news.

Bruce, why does it matter to you or anyone HOW someone accesses the BC? I sometimes ski with a great skier and really humble guy who was a Heli-guide for years. He saw snowfields you or I never will BUT NEVER does he rattle on about what an amazing ski God that makes him and how heli-skiing is just the best thing since peanut butter. He skis anything anywhere and never makes any excuses for what he does. Green groomer or black sidecountry stashes , the guy never looks for anything but fun. TD uses the lifts to access SC as much as anyone I know, and if you think you are going to show him "real" Tele because of where you ski, well you would do well to think again -- and you know better. Td also goes tromping around to find turns when the lifts don't run and sometimes we join him. What fucking difference does it make how and when and what we happen to be skiing or what gear we choose to ski on? Come back out again. We'll skin up the Basin behind Lookout into the AVY zone where you can tell us all what a joke it is. Or we will follow TD into the BC from Silver. That will end all of you bullshit about what's a joke and what's not. Oh, lookout offers cat skiing now, so anyone making use of that to push out farther from the resort must be a loser too BECAUSE that's not what you do? Get over the freaking nonsense.

My my my. Someone needs a nappy nap! Nighty night Grampa Groomer! The snow falls equally on all surfaces in the same area, Grumpa. SC or BC, all the same. G's to the G's on the 109's! ARC WAY WAY GONE!

And why would lift-served BC be a joke? I don't even know WTF that means. Untracked snow is untracked snow. So the KTB plop their asses down in an old Pinto and drink beer going to some old dump at the end of a road and then clamber off for 500 feet of vertical and take all day doing so. Uhh SO WHAT? Ride in the Pinto or ride on the lift. Who cares?

Well, when you left here, you posted that it was one of the best trips you all had had out West. You seem to be telling a lot of divergent stories. The story you told about how it was all hardpack and ice the week you were here was quite easy to disproove and it was an insult to everyone who tried to make sure you enjoyed yourselves when you were here. And I was skiing some lighter gear back then, not so much now. And we all had a retro-day one day at lookout when I skied my old Lite-terrains, 3PC and Excursions and and Td skied his Mantras with heavy leathers. Bottomline is we all had a great time, no need to ruin it with bullshit. Middle of March here can be powder or spring skiing. It was spring skiing, and then the week after you left it was a foot of fresh powder. Way it goes. No bullshit excuses, no disrespect.

Ron we had fun out there with you and KDT TD and Billy.....Mostly though it was lift served skiing....No offense, but that is NOT the experience I look for when heading West.....Powder Mountain was great though....Unless we found some non lift skiing areas won't waste my money heading out there....BC around here is to good.....and the nearest lift is 30 miles away. Lastly Ron.....if you were doing tons of BC without lifts you wouldn't be on the equipment you are on now....TM

Hahaha..What am I on? When I climb I am currently on a couple relatively light setups, one with Hw3pins and the other with the Switchback X2 binding. Essentially on my old K2 Backups I am climbing on pins and skiing down on hardwired pins. With the skins ( and especially the SBX2 ) I can take far steeper approaches and get 2-3k of vertical far faster than anyone on some old waxed skinny DC skis. As you well know, and knew when you came out, TD and I both ski a lot of SC which is not one damn bit different from skiing "BC" snow except at the end of the day, our verticals are 15-20k while yours are maybe 1k. And at the end of a season ( technically we don't have to even end a season ) we have packed in turns equally to what it takes you many many years to get. When you came out, you said you wanted powder or corn and sugar. Storms were stalled. We found some powder. Corn was plentiful as was fun warm spring afternoon snow. But you barely left the low-angle groomers apparently due to those shitty old cambered-up skis you brought.

Well TM I got one for you Yurt off the back of Pebble Creek, plenty of BC, ride chairlift up and hike to the Yurt, or be a fool and hike in. I guarantee you will have more terrain choices than you can ski, done it several times myself, and Pebble Creek is much gnarlier than most ski areas so you can just stay in the BC on the backside where they wanted to put the ski area with all the choices, plus you can fly into SLC and go back to Powder Mtn.

And poor us..New lifts go in on the far right next year making all that BC more easily accessed from Lookout. Of course then, according to Bruce, it's somehow not BC. Right now it takes a couple hrs to skin up there. Poor us. BTW, you all never expressed any willingness to stomp up there at all when you were here, Gt. And it would have been an epic fail on your skis. Fact is the plan for your visit was exactly to see the country by touring the various resorts in the area. That was set before you even arrived. Man, I don't know how well you taught history but you are damned good at rewriting it, that's for sure!

Right now it takes a couple hrs to skin up there. I actually get this sentiment. It's not that somehow putting a lift in there is going to change the terrain, but rather, for me, it's a comment against development. I don't get how Bruce would be in that camp though as he supports people who'd just as soon log, mine and pollute those lands, then take whatever's left and put condos on it.

What is currently ez to dislike here is all of the shitshow that arrives every Saturday morning to every ski area around here now.. The influx can be quite irritating and greed is now running amok.. Old benefits for passholders are slowly being eliminated in very subtle ways. Investors rule..

Sure, I mean that's one, small thing that affects your experience, but I've been trying to put all these white-people problems I see into some kind of context of meaning.
Idaho is probably one of the least developed states other than Alaska, but that doesn't mean it's virgin by an stretch of the imagination. I've been thinking a lot about what the ideal ratio is between managed forest lands, forest preserve, ag land and developed land. I'd assume it's highly dependent on the resources there and the population, but I think we could do a lot better. We really don't need to cut our remaining first growth forests, and we surely don't need to manage as much as we do. That's greed. There's so much wood product already from the past century that can be recycled or re-used it's not even funny. Why do we keep building new housing complexes and condos when our population is relatively stable?
Sure there's some increase in efficiency in our new builds, but there's no reason we can't reuse or repurpose old materials. This needs to happen yesterday or things are going to be real bad in the next 20 years or so.
