Cottonwood Butte, Idaho --SE of Lewiston 1 hr+ on 95 going toward McCall and Brundage.. One 3000 ft. long rope tow -in 2 sections- and you need a good pair of leather gloves! There's a min. security prison not far from the ski area.

The Little Ski Hill, yup LITTLE, but 6 olympians grew up skiing here ..amazingly.. Right on 95 as you roll in close to Brundage. Another volunteer work. 95 bux for an adult season pass.. 20 bux for a day pass.. The Little Ski Hill!"The Little Ski Hill is a modest ski area in the western United States, located in west central Idaho, two miles (3 km) west of McCall. Adjacent to Highway 55, immediately west of the county line in Adams County, it was formerly known as the "Payette Lakes Ski Area."[1] Built in 1937 as a winter diversion for local forest workers, the Little Ski Hill has served the region's youth and skiing community for over eighty years. The small but action-packed facility has an alpine hill served by a T-bar surface lift, providing 405 vertical feet (123 m) of terrain on the only lighted ski area in the vicinity. It has a summit elevation of 5,600 feet (1,707 m) above sea level; the slopes face north and west. The ski area also has 18.6 miles (30 km) of groomed cross-country ski trails and a biathlon range. Ski legend and 50-year McCall resident Corey Engen taught at the hill for years before developing the nearby Brundage Mountain in 1961. Patty Boydstun, a World Cup alpine ski racer, grew up in McCall and learned to ski at the hill. She finished in eighth place in the slalom at the 1972 Winter Olympics and had ten top 10 finishes in the World Cup."

Blacktail Mountain, Montana..Just off the N. end of Flathead Lake. A friend of mine and his friends skied and boarded it as kids, before it was actually a ski area per se. Upside down mountain: park at the top and ride lifts back up to your car. Very affordable, nice lodge, relaxed atmosphere. Faces north basically, and generally no fog issue. Looking at Big Mountain to the north.

The Leavenworth Ski Hill! the very definition of small.. Lodge is way cool.. The hill is adjacent to one of their XC areas and some of the trails are lit for night..Fun place to doodle around if you are in Leavenworth for a night or 2 and weather cooperates.. The ski jump there is something to check out BTW.

Ski Mission Ridge..A mere 15 miles out of Wenatchee. Affordable, fun, unique setting. Good snow, small inbounds, but lots of sidecountry and ez BC access. Famous for wind up top! They even make snow down on the bunnyhill run which is nice and long.Beautiful views of the Cascades and the Columbia Basin. ( Ski hill of our old friend Aaron Wright of Ttips..Wonder how he is? He takes some lumps skiing - not at all shy about skiing around the rock formations and cliffs there evenwhen the snow is sketchy!)

Great Divide was open last weekend to passholders, and with this storm quite possibly open again this weekend.

Looks like another Sketchy slide will be available @lookout ..Sunday morning..There's but one trick month to get a ski in around here --if you are willing to drive down to Hood for Labor Day W/E..It's October that generally requires some effort and luck, though the Paradise Glacier on Rainier is also a fave for a lot of skinners in October also.

Ski Lost Trail! Located on the Bitterroot Crest ( Idaho/Montana border) S. of Lookout and with plenty of snowfall also. A couple hours south of Missoula. Like Turner, it's also rentable at least in part. EZ SC and BC access. Lost Trail
