They are obviously "different things" but you cannot flex the knees to the point of covering the toes and NOT be flexing your ankles, nor can you really pressure the boot cuffs and NOT have decent ankle flexion. People think of it in various ways that work for them. And how you can straighten your legs coming up to change leads and and still have strong ankle flex is a mystery to me. Poor Urmas cannot do it but I am happy you can. I see Urmas doing what I'm talking about in every video. You sure can keep both ankles flexed throughout the lead change. I don't know if you are able to find that NATO video with Wendy Bridgewaters excersize on ankle flexing, but it would explain what I'm talking about.

Look, when I have time, I will take a series of stills from that Urmas video and then you will be changing your tune. As he stands tall in the lead changes there's a time of MINIMAL ankle or knee flex. Of course, you seem to be a lot like Bruce, and for the religious skier, there's no evidence that shakes the faith.

What I'm seeing is that he never stands up fully, always keeping a flex to his ankles.

Bullshit! Focus on second 27. There's always a time in transition, however brief, when there is minimal, if any, ankle dorsiflexion. This guy is a really good Telemark skier. What you think and what you do are often at odds. All you need do is look at the cover pic. Now tell us where all this ankle flexion is.

Just because it doesn't happen every time doesn't mean it doesn't happen. The more you keep your ankles flexed the less up and down movement there will be, and that's fine by me.

Note: I never said there was none, I said during the transitions there's a brief time when ankle flexion is minimal -and what there is might just be from skiing in ski mode rather than walk mode. The video above shows in several sequences exactly what I am saying.

Minimal ankle flexing is still ankle flexing, so I'm glad we agree on this one too. We're making progress here.

Well, you might have read a bit more carefully.. I think of ankle flexion in terms of the knee, just as some alpine skiers do: flex the knees out to where they cover the toes. I don't worry about the point in transition where there's minimal ankle flex, it's going by quickly and it's not doing much.
