^^^ that's exactly what it is: wedged start to a Tele turn which can be useful , obviously, even for advanced skiers on really variable snow, but whether it's Tele or "downhill", that's how all skiers start. And that "downhill" gear (all Tele gear is "downhill", there's no real distinction) is not not "so good" in the wood (or anywhere else) it is BETTER than any old blended junk you want to call Tele. The best Tele skiers do the best parallel Tele; it's that simple.

Someone lost touch with reality parallel happens in every change in stance, only for a moment and the movement moves on. Think I'll head up to the ski hill for the beer and mucic makes more sense than GT. I can visualize this winters skiing yes skiing not trudging about the woods.

Equipment makes a very big difference in how you ski, as does the skier

Umm, these say it all..40's.. Far more emphasis on downhill and climbing but it's in a broad sense cross country, but more cross country/ downhill with the real emphasis on downhill. The gear:
The skiing/technique:
"Advanced"..

I have never found that much use for this "Step Tele", on the contrary I have found it to be destabilizing. If it's really that steep or challenging, an alpine 2-step is much smoother and steadier generally. Yes you get across the falline sooner with the quick steps, but why deal with the tele lead change unless you want to go way low which is not what is demonstrated here?

As tall and as tight as he executes, I don't see any great difference between doing it tele or alpine. The pole action in all 3 of the techniques depends on a very positive pole plant which make me question the value of any of them at all in deep(er) snow. Yes, you can hop-turn on any snow but in powder and such, you won't get much assist be weighting and/or pivoting around a pole plant.

Possibly the BEST Staggered Step-Tele I have seen. Quick and he ONLY lifts the trailing AT the TIP so he does not get thrown back - identical in that regard to the best Step-Parallel turn. Balanced and quite smooth. He transitions it seemlessly to a Hop-Tele.

Very nice! Often ski alpine instructors teach 2 things: snowplows and parallel turns, ignoring a whole panoply of useful manuevers on skis which, though maybe seldom needed on smooth groomers, can literally be survival tools anywhere off the groomed-- and on as well at times. Anything goes when needed.

The very unique Tele 2-step.. deserves to be here. It's like the Tele-Burr-turn !
